This Week in Review: GW5 Carnage in Our £100 Game
Blimey. If Gameweek 5 taught us anything, it's that nobody is safe in this game — not even the people who were convinced they'd found the banker of the season.
We rolled into the weekend with 53 entries still alive in the September £100 Game (Free). By the time the final whistle went on Sunday, that number had been chopped nearly in half: 26 survivors, 27 gone. One of the biggest culls we've had since the game kicked off.
The pick that broke hearts
Nottingham Forest. Oof. Twelve of you fancied Forest at home and, on paper, who could blame you? Then Coventry City rocked up at the City Ground, nicked a 1-0, and sent all twelve packing. Easily the most damage a single result did all week.
At the other end of the scale, Manchester City were the banker that actually paid out. Fifteen players trusted Pep's lot and got a proper old-school 5-3 ding-dong against Sunderland for their trouble. Not exactly comfortable viewing, but a win's a win — and everyone who backed City strolls into GW6.
Everton were quietly brilliant for the six who picked them, grinding out a 1-0 over Ipswich Town. Newcastle did the same job for their four backers, seeing off Hull City 2-1.
The rest of the carnage
Arsenal fans, look away now. Three of you went with the Gunners and all three got a 3-0 Brighton battering for their trouble. Leeds and Manchester United picks were both undone by draws, while lone punts on Chelsea, Spurs, Bournemouth, Hull City and Fulham all ended in tears too.
And then there were the three no-picks — automatic elimination before a ball was even kicked. Set a reminder, folks. That one always stings the most.

The lesson from the weekend writes itself: City, Everton and Newcastle kept the faithful alive, but Forest caused absolute carnage. With nearly half the field wiped out in a single round, the September £100 Game is wide open. It's anyone's to win now.
